While Director of a public television station’s Digital Media department, I was also part of a team of Executive Producers that created a new arts and entertainment program. Seattle was poised at the start of a building boom that has since transformed the face of the city, and I saw an opportunity to capture the moment by recreating images from Stephen Cysewski’s archive of photos taken in Seattle before the last building boom.
Talented producer Aileen Imperial and I came up with a format that “documented the documenting” of the locations. While we later simplified the shoots (and renamed them from “Wandering” to “ReScene”), I always especially liked the first one we did. Unlike segments that focused on buildings that are no longer there, this one showed how the Georgetown neighborhood has become revitalized without sacrificing its unique collection of 19th Century buildings.
